To: The Headmaster, St. Peter's School, Panchgani.
Dear Sir,
Since time immemorial, generations of Peterites have made the school
motto their own. "Ut Prosim" means, and has always meant, humbly
and quite simply, "That I may serve".
The spirit of that motto is made crystal clear in every verse of the
School Song:
Ut Prosim, that we may fashion,
All our lives to serve the Nation.
...
Ut Prosim, my golden deed,
To help another in his need.
As a staunch Peterite, it pains me to observe a new, liberally-translated and
rather materialistic interpretation of the motto, as currently stated in the
School website and other material: |

Dear Friends, A Big thank you to all the Panchiites who made it to the London reunion on Saturday, 2nd June 2007!!
Some of the usual crowd from the pre-Independence days of Kimmins and St Peter's (or Boys' High School as it was known then) attended and I have to say that they really are a great inspiration to us all. Some of them are in their 80's and still make an effort and attend the reunion every year. It is always fascinating to hear their stories about Panchi in their time. Donald Palmer unfortunately was unwell and could not make it but sent a very nice letter which was read out. It just made our efforts seem even more worthwhile. We wish him a speedy recovery. |
